Frequently asked questions...

Family Health Clinics will be efficient in communicating with patients when pathology test results are returned, especially if anything unusual is confirmed. We may ask that patients make an appointment to discuss results with the GP, whether in person or via Telehealth.

In general, pathology results take 2-4 working days. Some may take longer if the cultivation period requires, and some pathology test results may be fast-tracked as ‘urgent’ if the referring GP or specialist needs to know what or why something is happening to a patient more immediately.

For many typical pathology tests, Medicare will cover the costs. If there will be an out-of-pocket charge, the pathologist or referring doctor will advise you prior.

Pathology tests cover a wide range of bodily fluids for diagnostic purposes; you may need to do a blood test, urine test, stool sample, nasal or throat swab, saliva test, skin biopsy or otherwise. Pathology tests allow doctors to understand what is happening within your body to dictate the necessary course of treatment.
